Ahmed Shihab-Eldin @ASE

Ahmed Shihab-Eldin is an Emmy-nominated journalist working as a Correspondent/Producer for VICE in HBO. In 2015, he was featured on the Arabian Business power list of the planet’s 100 most influential young Arabs. In 2012 he was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list of ‘young disruptors, innovators and media entrepreneurs impatient to change the world’. In 2014, Ahmed left HuffPost Live, which he co-created in 2012 and hosted & produced for the live-streaming news network for two years. There, he developed and hosted World Brief, a 30 minute interactive global news show.

In 2011, Ahmed co-created, produced and co-hosted Al Jazeera English’s “The Stream,” an award-winning interactive talk show, earning him an Emmy nomination for Most Innovative Program in 2012 for a show about Bahrain’s political crisis.

Before joining Al Jazeera English, Ahmed worked as a reporter across the Middle East and North Africa. In 2010, he also launched the Doha Tribeca Film Festival and served as a correspondent and Editorial Director for The Doha Film Institute. Before Qatar, Ahmed worked in New York as an interactive producer at PBS’s award-winning documentary series Wide Angle, a producer for The New York Times and as a videographer for PBS’s FRONTLINE/World as well as the Rockefeller Foundation.

In 2007, Ahmed graduated with honors from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism with a specialization in digital media. In 2009, he began teaching courses in digital media at Columbia University as an Adjunct Professor.

Ahmed has reported from Lebanon, Qatar, UAE, Egypt, Jordan and other locations in the U.S. and Arab world and has appeared as a commentator for NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, Al Jazeera and the BBC. In 2013, he was honored with the 2013 Professional Excellence Award by NAAP-NY.

Ahmed is often invited to speak at leading media and technology conferences and panels across the world, including the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, SXSW, the Aspen Ideas Festival and Google Zeitgeist in Europe and the United States.
