Originally from Leesburg, Virginia, Brian Lewis graduated from New York University in 2016 with a MA in Near Eastern Studies. His research interests include intersections of gender/sexuality and Orientalism and social justice movements in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region. He received his BA from the College of William and Mary in 2009, where he studied abroad at the American University of Beirut. After graduation, he worked and studied Arabic at the Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies in 2009-10, before returning to the United States to work as a Security Analyst at the MENA desk at iJET International in 2011-12. He returned to Yemen with the International Organization for Migration in 2012, assisting with civil society capacity building. Brian hopes to build a career in the think-tank/non-profit sector. Dream jobs include working with the Carnegie Middle East Center and Human Rights Watch.
