Frank Elbers is editor of Muftah’s Eastern Europe & Central Asia pages. He is a freelance journalist & researcher based in Bucharest and an associated member of the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB), Social Sciences Division. From 2016-2018, he was a fellow at the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World at Lebanese American University (LAU) in Beirut, where he taught courses on gender and human rights. A political scientist and journalist by training, Frank has worked in human rights and transitional justice in post-communist Eastern Europe and in the Middle East and North Africa over the past 25 years. He has published academically on political extremism, migration, gender equality, citizenship and human rights education. Frank’s stories and commentary have appeared in CBC News, Courrier international, Dilema veche, National Post, OpenCanada, taz, and de Volkskrant, among other outlets.
