Jan Keulen worked for twenty years as a correspondent for de Volkskrant and other Dutch media, being based in various countries around the globe including Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan. He is the author of various books on Middle Eastern politics and taught journalism at the Rijks Universiteit Groningen (Netherlands) and received the Dutch journalism award (NDP-prijs) in 1984 for his reporting on the Lebanese war. From 2006 until 2010, Jan was the Founder and Coordinator of the Investing in the Future programme for journalists and media lawyers in Middle Eastern countries including Yemen. From 2011 to 2013, Jan was the General Director of the Doha Centre for Media Freedom.
