Joseph Flaherty earned a B.A. from Middlebury College, where he studied history and political science and was the editor of the student newspaper. His thesis, on the diplomatic relationship between Britain and the Ottoman Empire in the 1870s, won the history department’s annual prize for the best thesis. He currently lives and works in Sakarya, Turkey. Previously, he has worked for the White House and the Centre for Policy and Research on Turkey.
