Muftah is putting together a Special Collection of creative pieces by young American Muslim writers. We are seeking artistic, well-written submissions of fiction or creative nonfiction of up to 2000 words that exhibit the wide array of creative talent in the American Muslim community. Submissions should be original, unpublished works.

This Special Collection, organized in conjunction with the Muslim Writers Collective, is intended to give Muslims in the United States a chance to reclaim their narratives and voice their hopes, fears, frustrations, opinions, or artistic abilities. When the media landscape is so often dominated by those who seek to appropriate, misrepresent, or drown out genuine Muslim voices, it is essential to create spaces and platforms for authentic, nuanced Muslim perspectives. This Collection hopes to lend credence to these voices and narratives by publishing works of poetry, short stories, essays, memoirs, excerpts of novels, and other creative or experimental works.

Submissions are due May 4, 2015. Please email articles to [email protected] For additional information about Muftah, please read Our Mission page here.

Please note that we will only be able to respond to those authors whose submissions are accepted for publication.
